For the first time since 2001, The Indian Call has won an “All-Kansas” Award. The 2011-2012 edition of the yearbook was critiqued in five areas: concepts, reporting, design, coverage and photography. The Indian Call was awarded “All-Kansas” for reporting, photography and coverage, and “Award of Commendation” for concepts and design.
Yearbook adviser Bill Gasper was satisfied with the students’ accomplishment.
“I’m very pleased we won the award,” journalism teacher Bill Gasper said. “It’s something we try to achieve each year. Winning ‘All Kansas’ means that our yearbook is considered one of the top yearbooks in the state.”
Gasper credits the yearbook’s success to the staff.
“We had a good staff last year with excellent leadership,” Gasper said. “It takes some hard work and dedication to reach ‘All Kansas’ status. It’s especially gratifying since it is one of the top yearbooks in Kansas. The staff put in the time needed to make the yearbook successful. They all worked hard to make sure we put out a good product that Hays High and the whole community can be proud of.”
The Co-Editors –in-Chief were senior Kylee Filley and graduate Brenda Soto.
“I was surprised that we won and thought that Mr. Gasper was joking,” Filley said. “I argued with him because I didn’t think we had won.”
