On April 15, the Hays High School boys golf team stayed in Hays to compete at its own tournament. The Bob Blazer Invitational tournament was held at the Smoky Hill Country Club.
Throughout the day, the Indians shot a combined score of 377, which earned them ninth as a team.
The lowest score Hays had came from sophomore Braiden Bickle, who had a 93 and placed 38th. After him was both sophomore Caleb Thompson and junior Truman Johnson, who both shot a 94. After them was sophomore Trey Oakley, who shot a 96.
“Our team did all right, considering the windy conditions,” Bickle said. “We’re going to keep working on basic fundamentals to continue finding success in the second half of the season.”
Following the Hays invitational, the Indians attended the Dodge City tournament on April 18.
Hays had to compete not only against other players, but also the wind. With a team score of 345, they earned seventh place. Senior Braxton Banker led the Indians with and 84 and finished 33rd. Junior Cooper Johnson shot 86 and placed 41st, and Truman Johnson placed 63rd after scoring a 93.
Heading to Salina South on April 19, Thompson was Hays’ top golfer after shooting a six-over-par 77 and placing seventh. Banker placed 28th with a score of 86. Cooper Johnson and Oakley both shot 87 and earned 30th and 31st.
