As the Indians’ boys golf team headed into its first meet at the Turkey Creek Golf Course near Hennessey, Okla., on April 2nd, everyone was hoping that they could get a strong start to the season.
Playing on a course with a par 70, senior Braxton Banker led Hays High, shooting an 85. Behind him was sophomore Braiden Bickle with an 88, sophomore Caleb Thompson with a 93 and freshman Trey Oakley with a 97. As a team, the Indians took sixth.
“We didn’t play that good,” junior Truman Johnson said. “We just need to get used to playing in tournaments, and we will start doing better.”
Although Hays did not play as well as they intended, there are more chances for them this season, including their next tournament on April 11 at the Newton Invitational.
