Volleyball wins season opener
The Lady Indian volleyball team opened the season on Sept. 2 with a pair of home victories over Larned and LaCrosse.
In the first match against Larned, Hays quickly overpowered the visitors by winning in straight games, 25-15 and 25-13. Junior Tessa Stickel led the way with six kills and five digs, while junior Madison Prough had 10 assists and four service aces. Senior Ashlyn Parish had four kills and three solo blocks.
Stickel followed her first match performance with another fine effort in the second match against LaCrosse as she registered nine kills to lead the Indians to a 25-20 and 25-17 victory. Parish had six kills, while junior Albany Schaffer had 13 digs. Prough put up 13 assists, and junior Kylie Brown had four solo block and two block assists.
The Indians, 2-0, will travel to Goodland on Sept. 9 for a quad.
