Business department sells pumpkins to raise funds
All week the Business Economics class has been selling pumpkins outside of Hays High and other schools across the district.
“We came up with the idea to sell pumpkins because Mr. Hibbs knew a guy who was growing a lot of pumpkins,” sophomore Caden Riat said.
Riat has taken several business classes and was excited for the pumpkin sales and has enjoyed it so far.
All the proceeds for the pumpkin will go right back into the business department. The money will help buy new materials and technology for different classes. Each pumpkin sells for $5 a piece.
“Our lofty goal is to sell 4000 pumpkins,” instructor Silas Hibbs said. “I feel the students are realizing the difference between having an idea ‘in theory’ and executing the idea in ‘real-life.’ Basically, the students are learning that things rarely go exactly ‘to plan.'”
Pumpkins will also be sold during the homecoming football game at Lewis Field Stadium on October 5. All students are encourage to check out the selection.
“I am not exactly sure how much money we have made from the pumpkins, but I know that it is a very high number,” Riat said. “My favorite part about selling pumpkins so far has been yelling my sales pitch at everyone. It is ‘Pumpkins here all shapes, all sizes, $5 a pumpkin.’”
