Senior Preston Weigel wins Nationals
Senior Preston Weigel placed first at the Rocky Mountain Nationals in wrestling on March 16. Weigel now has a 168-4 career record, a 45-0 season record, three consecutive state champion titles, a second-place state finish his freshman year and the 2014 national champion title under his belt.
Weigel wrestled in the 195 pound weight class.
“I have been wrestling since I was 5,” Weigel said. “My cousin got me into it when I was little and I liked it so I stuck with it.”
Weigel has been on the team since his freshman year and enjoys the training and competition wrestling has to offer.
“My favorite part of being on the team is probably helping other teammates and watching them have success,” Weigel said.
Weigel is going to miss his coaches and friends but has many plans for the future.
“I plan to go on and wrestle D1,” Weigel said. “I’ll see where that takes me.”
