A fundraising event will be held at Taco Shop on Dec. 9 from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. for Hays Middle School teacher, Bill Maddy.

Maddy, who has been teaching within USD 489 for 20 years, has recently been diagnosed with Leukemia. Fifteen percent of the proceeds received during the event will be placed into a fund already set up in his name to raise money for expenses such as food and medical bills. Other donations will also be accepted into the fund.

Former students Kylee Filley, Sydney Niernberger and Darian Leiker have spear-headed the campaign to raise money for their middle school teacher by starting a group on Facebook in order to raise awareness of the event. There, one can RSVP and invite others to join as well.
