Students react to Tumblr block

Tumblr is no longer accessible at school.

Tumblr is a popular website where anyone can create a blog with pictures, videos, text and links. Up until Sept. 9, Tumblr was allowed to be visited at school, but it is now blocked on student’s laptops as soon as they enter the building.

Although some students are unaffected by the change, many are not happy with it.

“I hate it,” sophomore Chelsey Augustine said, “I don’t understand why it’s blocked and I wish it wasn’t.”

Tumblr was blocked when the CCU staff was contacted by the administration about the concerns of having Tumblr allowed at school.

“Students weren’t using it for schoolwork and they were using it during class,” Assistant Systems Administrator Zach Meyer said. “They told me that it had become a distraction and there was always the concern of there being inappropriate content on the site.”

Some students believe that instead of Tumblr being blocked, certain rules should be set.

“I think it should be regulated, but not blocked,” freshman Rachelle Lumpkins said.

When students finished their homework in seminar or GPS, many used to spend some of their time on Tumblr to pass the time.

“I have GPS and seminar back to back so I get my homework done and run out of things to do so I used to get on Tumblr,” senior Kaylee DeWitt said. “I’m not happy about it being blocked.”
