“The Forest” movie review
Horror and thriller movie “The Forest” is a movie based upon the real life suicide forest in Japan deep in the Fuji Mountains known as Aokigahara Forest.
Jess and Sara Price star in the movie as twin sisters who have good instinct for each other. While Jess goes to Japan to teach students there, Sara gets a gut feeling things aren’t good when she won’t answer her phone.
In despair to hear from her sister, Sara goes to Japan in search of her sister that she soon finds is to be lost in the suicide forest.
Refusing to leave Japan until she finds her sister, Sara comes across a man in a bar that speaks fluent English know by the name of Aiden and can most likely be a good help for Sara to find her twin.
Aiden explains to Sara he is a journalist and plans to do a story about the suicide forest. Aiden also has arrangements to go with a very experienced tour guide who can probably help them to find Jess.
However, Aiden asks Sara if he can do a story about Jess being lost and interviewing Sara along the tour. Sara agrees and tells Aiden a bit of background information to the story of Jess and her motives to go to Japan, let alone the suicide forest.
To not encounter danger such as hearing and seeing supernatural things, the tour guide as well as other Japanese residents warn Sara to not go into the forest sad or after dark.
Later, after touring part of the forest with the tour guide and Aiden, Sara comes across Jess’s tent which indicates Jess is unsure about her decision to commit suicide.
Sara decides to stay the night and continue searching for her sister in the morning. In hopes to get closer to Sara, Aiden stays along with Sara to keep her safe and find more to the story of Jess getting lost in the forest.
Insisting to find her sister, Sara refuses to leave the forest until she finds her and ends up confronting with frightening flashbacks of her life as well as things that seem to be real but are really made up in her head.
Whilst trying to escape the bad thoughts and find Jess, Sara battles some difficult hallucinogens as well as injuries.
The movie definitely has some suspense the majority of the movie and keeps you on your toes to figure out different aspects.
Throughout the movie, other things are revealed such as the story of Jess and Sara, their relationship, and their parents.
I give this movie an eight out of 10 because I found it to be a little bit confusing. However, it is a good thriller and gives a good cliff hanger.
