On Sept. 26, the Hays High School volleyball team hosted a tournament in Hays, where the girls won their two games.
In the first game, they played against the Phillipsburg Panthers. The matches were back and forth between the teams, but ultimately, Hays was the victor, winning 2-1. Hays, at the time, had a record of 11-5 then.
In the second game, they played against the Chapman Fighting Irish. The matches were tough, but Hays prevailed during the second match, bringing the score to 2-0. Overall, their perseverance paid off, bringing the lady Indians’ record to 12-5.
“We beat Chapman in two and played really well,” head coach Shannon Funk said. “Then against Philipsburg, we played okay. Philipsburg was pretty scrappy, and they were able to pick up a lot of balls. We ended up winning in three sets. We didn’t play as well as we could have, but then got the win, which was good.”
