On Oct. 14, the lady Indian volleyball team competed in the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) tournament in Dodge City, where Hays took second in the tournament.

The Indians first played Liberal and won the first set, 25-17, and the second set, 25-20.

Next, the Indians had their only loss of the day, and that was against Great Bend. The Indians lost in the first set with a score of 25-27. They then also lost the second set with a score of 14-25.

After those losses, the Indians won both matches with the last two teams. Against Dodge City, the Indians won 25-22 in the first set and 25-19 in the second set. The Indians also took out Garden City winning 25-20 in the first set and 25-22 in the second set.

Despite getting second at WAC, the lady Indians lost in their first round of the 5A regional competition on Oct. 21 in Great Bend. Andover beat the Indians, 25-12 in the first set and 25-20 in the second set.

The lady Indians finished out this volleyball season with a season record of 21-14.

“I’m most proud of how we improved as a team over this season,” senior Lilian McGrath said. “We didn’t get off to the best start with our record, but we worked hard in practice, and it paid off.”
