On Friday, Sept. 13, the Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) gathered in the Lecture Hall for its first meeting of the year.
HOSA is open to any student who dreams of a career in the medical field. The organization takes high schoolers who want to pursue a career in health care and gives them a look at what health care really is.
The students who attended the meeting were informed about what HOSA is, officer positions, field trip opportunities, funds and blood drives.
The club already has a president and two vice presidents who will be running the club. The president is senior Kolynn Denning, and the vice presidents are seniors Isabelle Jones and Reaghan Wamser. At the Oct. 1 meeting, the club will be voting for the open positions, treasurer and secretary.
There are three planned upcoming meetings for HOSA. Oct. 1 is for officer elections and a reminder about the blood drive. On Oct. 16, sponsor Jennifer Olt invited a public speaker, and on Oct. 30, the club will discuss and sign up for the first blood drive on Nov. 12.
Each month, the club hopes to have health care workers come speak to the club. For example, in October, they are organizing a speaker to honor Breast Cancer Awareness month.
āIām excited to grow the HOSA chapter and try to develop it into a professional organization with ties with our Hays community to create partnerships and mentorships in the coming years,ā Olt said.
