The spring blood drive will take place on April 24 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Gym B. An online sign up will be put on the Hays High website for those interested in donating blood.

To donate you must be 17 or 16 with a  parent’s permission, weigh at least 110 pounds and be in generally good health.

This time the Red Cross will bring the Alyx machine with them. This machine is for double red blood cell donation. It has an automated process that separates red blood cells from other parts of the blood and returns those remaining components to your body.

This process uses a smaller needle than regular donation, but also takes about 30 minutes longer than the average donation time.

To qualify for this kind of donation, females must be at least 5’5, weigh at least 175 lbs. and hemoglobin must be at least 13.3 g/dL. Males must be at least 5’1, weight at least 150 lbs. and their hemoglobin must be at least 13.3 g/dL.
