With a, 73-64, win against Liberal in the sub-state championship game the boys basketball team clinched a state berth for the first time since 2003.
Hays never trailed in the game and the only tie was 0-0 until the Indians jumped out to an early 5-0 lead.
The closest the game got after that was a two point differential at 43-41.
Senior Adam Deterding and Lane Clark both had 16 points to lead the team. Deterding tied his career high.
The Indians are the seven seed in the state tournament and face the two seed Lansing at the Topeka Expocentre on Thursday, March 7, at 6:30 p.m.
