The boys basketball team won Friday night’s game against Liberal 47-45 in thrilling fashion.
At the end of the game, senior Trey Herman took over, having five of the last seven points and the assist on the other basket.
Herman had a three-point play, followed by an assist to senior Charles Howell, then forced Liberal to have an offensive foul, and finally won the game with 2.4 seconds left on a layup.
The Indians started out the game with a lead but then went on a cold streak and were down 11-7 at the end of the first quarter.
The two teams then went into halftime with the Indians up 24-21.
In the third quarter Liberal outscored the Indians, 14-6, and in the fourth quarter led by as many as eight points before Hays mounted its comeback.
The next game for the boys basketball team is Jan. 11 at Great Bend.
