Hays hosted the boys varsity tennis meet on Monday, April 14 at the Fort Hays State University’s tennis courts.
Hays competed with three separate teams: Hays Gold, Hays Maroon and Hays Extra.
Hays Gold tied for second place overall. The team consisted of the following players:
No. 1 Singles: senior Kale Schwien – first place
No. 2 Singles: senior Ethan Dague – sixth place
No. 1 Doubles: seniors Preston Parr and Mason Schleicher – second place
No. 2 Doubles: seniors Peter Hyatt and Trenton Staley – seventh place
Hays Maroon took sixth place overall. The team consisted of the following players:
No. 1 Singles: senior Ken Shaffer – second place
No. 2 Singles: senior LeRoy Goodspeed – eighth place
No. 1 Doubles: seniors Christian Miller and Madox Zimmerman – sixth place
No. 2 Doubles: seniors Oscar Flores and John Weisenborn – eighth place
Hays Extra took seventh overall. The team consisted of the following players:
No. 1 Singles: junior Tyler Huynh – eighth place
No. 2 Singles: sophomore Brody Burns – fifth place
No. 1 Doubles: sophomores Camdyn Luck and Cyler Luck – eighth place
No. 2 Doubles: sophomores Damian Guzman and Cyran Randle – fifth place
Coach Kayla Brown expressed her satisfaction with the season so far.
“The primary varsity players have seen lots of success for the first half of the season,” Brown said. “They are excited for the upcoming meets that will allow them to push themselves and continue to improve before we compete at WAC [Western Athletic Conference] and regionals. We have also been able to get some of the juniors and sophomores into some varsity meets so they can gain that upper-level experience before next season when the seniors are graduated.”
