Ending their season, members of the girls golf team competed in the 5A Girls State Golf Tournament on Monday, Oct. 21 and Tuesday, Oct. 22 at the Salina Municipal Golf Course.
The first day of the tournament ran into problems with rain and lightning, so some girls had to finish their opening rounds the next day. Juniors Lily Butler and Ava Erbert both finished their rounds and tied for 70th, shooting 36 over par. Seniors Liz Dreiling and Jaycee Oakley and freshman Kinley Pfannenstiel did not get to finish their opening rounds on Monday. Pfannenstiel ended the day also tied for 70th after 16 holes. Dreiling was in 53rd, shooting 28 over par after 16 holes. Oakley was in fifth, shooting only four over par after 15 holes.
The girls got to finish their opening rounds on Tuesday, and Oakley qualified to compete in the second round. She shot a seven over par in the first round and 19 over par in the second, shooting a 159 overall, and landing her a ninth-place finish in Class 5A.
“I was excited to see my hard work finally being shown,” Oakley said. “My favorite part of this season was getting close with the team this year. It was fun and enjoyable!”
