Girls place first in league golf tournament

Girls varsity golf had their Western Athletic Conference meet on Oct. 6 at Great Bend’s Stoneridge Country Club, where they played 18 holes.

All four of the varsity members placed in the Top 4. Junior Taleia McCrae earned first with an 85, senior Sophie Garrison placed second with an 86, sophomore Katie Dinkel also shot an 86 for third and freshman Abbie Norris received fourth with an 87. The girls team took first at the meet with a total score of 344.

As well as placing first, McCrae was also named WAC Player of the Year. McCrae also made WAC First Team, along with Dinkel and Garrison. Honorable Mentions included Norris and senior Sierra Smith. The Hays High golf coach, Mark Watts, was named WAC Coach of the Year.

“Taleia had a great season, and her being WAC Player of the Year is well deserved,” Watts said. “Having Sophia and Katie on First Team show how good their season has been. It was great to have our top four players all shoot what they did today. I am looking forward to regionals this coming Monday in Wichita.”
