The State Debate team was held this last Friday Jan. 17. With three state competitors, two of them are second year round competitors at the state tournament.

“We came to the tournament on a qualifying record of 14/6.” Debate teacher Zach Butte said.

“Even though I was only an alternate, it was still a great experience,” Senior David Rankin said.

The three state qualifiers are senior Alex Green, senior David Rankin, and junior Ben Rajewski. For Alex and Rankin the experience is over. However, Ben might have another year yet if he chooses to participate his senior year.

“I was under the impression that all the participants enjoyed it and were pleased with the scoring.” Butte said. “Our mistakes were small, anyway.”

Most of the debate was a success and the three state competitors enjoyed the learning experience overall.

“Well, I thought the State Debate tournament was a very educational and academic learning experience, regardless of going 3-3.” Senior Alex Green said.
