On Thursday, May 2 through Saturday, May 4, Hays High School’s baseball team played in the Diamond Classic at home.
In the first game, they played against Thomas More Prep on May 2 at 6 p.m. They lost the game, 8-2, but they soon reclaimed victory.
On May 3, in the second game, Hays defeated Manhattan that morning, 4-3, in extra innings. They then won again in their next game on Friday with a 7-0 victory against Brush High School in a nightcap.
In the championship game on May 4, the Indians took on Life Prep, winning with an 8-4 victory and becoming the 2024 Western Plains Diamond Classic tournament champions.
There were also awards given out after the Diamond Classic, with senior Cooper Sanders being selected as MVP and senior Nolan Dreher and junior Johnny Cano being selected to the Diamond Classic All-Tournament Team.
