Lady Indians start softball season with losses to Valley Center

The Hays High School lady Indian softball team sparked off its 2023-2024 regular season on March 28, with a double header against the Valley Center Hornets.

The lady Indians hosted Valley Center, but got off to a rough start, and the Hornets took the first match of the day, 11-5.

After a short break, the lady Indians attempted to improve their opening record to 1-1, but Valley Center had other plans. The Hornets crushed the lady Indians with a double-digit win, 13-1.

“[We need to] improve on having an execution… [and] being more focused with our softball IQ,” senior Dezarae Schmidt said. “[The execution is] knowing the game situations and applying what we need to win those games that may be tight or harder competition. We also need to remember to just have fun and let loose.”

Hays High will play at home against the Dodge City Demons on April 2.
