Girls golf wins at Great Bend, ends with WAC honors

Girls golf played in the final Western Athletic Conference tournament at Stoneridge Country Club in Great Bend on Oct. 5. It was a nine-hole tournament, in which par was 36.

Sophomore Abbie Norris placed first with a score of 39, junior Katie Dinkel took second with a 40, senior Taleia McCrae placed third with a 43 and freshman Jaycee Oakley shot a 44 for seventh.

Their total score was a 165 for first place.

Dinkel, Norris and sophomore Evyn Cox earned individual 2021 All-WAC honors. Junior Claire Humphrey, McCrae and Oakley were all named Honorable Mention.

Along with taking second and being All-WAC, Dinkel was also named WAC Player of the Year, and her coach Mark Watts was named Coach of the Year.

Their next tournament, which is regionals, will be hosted by Hays High at Smoky Hill Country Club on Monday, Oct. 11
