Three athletes medal at 5A State Track and Field Meet in Wichita

After several rain delays, three out of eight athletes competing medaled at the State Track and Field Meet in Wichita on May 24-27.

The three medaling athletes include:

  • 300 Hurdles-7. Brooklyn Schaffer (48.56)
  • Pole Vault-6. Tucker Veach (12-06.00)
  • Javelin-3. Gavin Meyers (167-01)

 

The other competing athletes include:

  • 3200-16. Landri Dotts (13:01.22)
  • 300 Hurdles-11. Da’Vontai Robinson (41.43)
  • Shot Put-11. Logan Harris (33-08.50)
  • High Jump-11. Roy Moroni (5-10.00)
  • Triple Jump-15. Kyler Beckman (40-07.00)

Hays High School becomes stronger with community support
On May 13, Hays High School track head coach Kip Keeley walks around the high jump mat after watching senior Kamani Jones jump. The high jumpers were preparing for their Western Athletic Conference meet on May 15. Keeley said that this year, there has been “great improvement on the kids.”

Anna Brull is a sophomore, and this is her second year in newspaper. She is also involved in Cross Country, Student Council, Red Cross Club and Chess Club. Outside of school, she enjoys spending time with family and friends, reading books and watching Netflix.

Jacob Maska, a four year member of the Guidon staff and former Sports Editor and current Photo Editor. Maska has played soccer for all four years of his high school career, and was named captain this year. Maska would like to pursue photography as a career.
