Girls golf wraps up season with sixth-place state finish

The girls golf team ended its season with a sixth-place finish at the state golf tournament on Oct. 16.

Freshman Taleia McCrae fired an 18-hole total of 88 to lead the girls golf team to a sixth-place finish at the Class 5A State Golf Championship at the Hesston Golf Course on Oct. 16.

McCrae was the lone medalist for the Indians, who shot a team total of 376. First place went to St. Thomas Acquinas with a 324, followed by Andover with a 331 and Lenexa-St. James Academy with a 341. Maize South was fourth with a 364, followed by Maize with a 373.

Other team scores were Wichita-Kaupaun, 380; Blue Valley Southwest, 388; Wichita-Bishop Carroll, 409; Shawnee Heights, 424; Topeka-Seaman, 437; and Emporia, 464.

Individually for the Indians, senior Emily McGuire carded a 94, followed by sophomore Sophia Garrison with a 95. Rounding out the top four scorers for Hays was senior Molly Eikenberry with a 99. Also competing were seniors Emily George and Brittani Park, both of whom ended with a 107.
