Boys basketball falls in first round of Colby tournament

The Hays High boys basketball team took on Falcon High School in the first round of the Colby Orange & Black tournament, losing 63-60 in overtime.

Hays started the first quarter behind trailing by as much as seven points but cut the Falcons lead down to four at the end of the quarter with a score of 18-14.

It only got worse for the Hays as the Falcons went on a 9-0 run to start the second quarter to make the score 25-14. Hays continued to struggle through the rest of the second quarter trailing by nine at the half with a score of 35-26.

Hays came out of the half cutting the lead to five at the end of the third quarter making the score 43-38. Hays took the lead for the first time in the game at the beginning of the fourth quarter.

The Falcons came back and tied the game at 53-53 to send the game into overtime. Hays hit the first shot of overtime taking the lead by two. The Falcons went on an 8-0 run leading by six. Hays would cut the lead to one but never gain the lead, and lose 63-60.

Hays will play Scott City at 4:00 p.m. on Jan. 20 at Colby High School.
