Volleyball splits opening matches
The Indian volleyball squad opened the season at Larned on Sept. 3 and split a pair of matches with Larned and LaCrosse.
Against LaCrosse, the Indians opened with a 25-22 decision in the first game but suffered a 14-25 setback in the second. In the third and deciding game, Hays posted a 26-24 win.
Hays got things rolling early against Larned and cruised to a 25-15 win. Things didn’t go as well in the final two games as Larned won the match with a 20-25 and 22-25 win in the final two games.
Sophomores Albany Schaffer, Madison Prough, and Audra Schmeidler led the way. Schaffer had 55 digs, Prough had 39 assists and Schmeidler had 15 kills.
The next action for the team will be the Goodland Quad on Sept. 10, followed by a quad at Dodge City on Sept. 12.
