Looking back 10, 25, 50 years ago
The Guidon staff has decided to include a monthly feature in which it will look through past editions of the newspaper to see the news events that were being reported 10, 25, and 50 years ago during each particular month.
10 Years Ago
April 2009
- The Guidon talks to students about the new GDL policy, which revised the license law, restricting when teenagers can drive and with who.
- Prom was held at the FHSU Memorial Union Black and Gold Ballroom for the first time.
- Four students are recognized by the Hays Arts Council Poetry and Prose Contest.
- Broadcasting win state awards.
- The International Travel Club raised over $400 for the Hope Integrate Academy in Masaka, Uganda.
- Senior Jocelyn Lytton comes back from knee injury her junior year to swim again.
25 Years Ago
April 1994
- Forensics attends national qualifiers tournament in Salina.
- Seniors reflect over their senior trip to New York City and Washington D.C..
- The Guidon discusses homosexuality.
- The Guidon surveyed students on their thought about education.
50 Years Ago
April 1969
- Students go to Crested Butte, Colorado over Easter Vacation to ski.
- Mrs. Darlene McNeill was chosen as Faculty Finest.
- Hays High track squad placed third at the State Indoor Track Meet in Manhattan.
- The faculty won against the seniors 47-38 in the annual faculty-senior basketball game.
