Cheerleaders prepare for tryouts
Upcoming at Hays High, there will be cheerleading tryouts held in Gym A and Gym B from March 21-24.
Before the tryouts are held, there will be a mandatory meeting on Sunday, March 19 at 7:30 p.m. in the Hays High cafeteria. Coaches ask that at least one parent attend the meeting with the students trying out.
The tryouts are four days. Three out of the four days consist of clinics, and then the last day is the actual tryout day.
Over the three days of clinics, the cheerleaders will learn a dance, a cheer, the fight song and some jumps. They also will do stunts so the coaches can gauge the abilities of the participants.
On the tryout day, the cheerleaders will get a number and will be put in groups of four. They will perform in front of a panel of three to five judges who will score them on what they learned in the clinics. The scores will be added, and the Top 16 scores will be on varsity, and the next 10 will be on JV.
“I’m not that nervous for tryouts, but it just depends on who I’m with,” sophomore cheerleader Cy Drobeck said. “It just depends on who I’m with and if I have a good group or not.”
