On Friday, Sept. 20, the Hays High School cheer team held its annual Kiddie Clinic, where the cheerleaders taught basic cheers and a dance to children who performed at the Indians’ football game that night against Manhattan.
Senior cheerleader Addy Wagner said the cheer team has been preparing for the camp for weeks to create a routine to teach the younger cheerleaders.
“We’ve been working on getting cheers ready, getting them game ready and performing with the Hays High cheer team at halftime,” Wagner said.
The cheerleaders all performed their routine at halftime of the football game to the song “Cruisin’ for a Bruisin’” from the hit film “Teen Beach Movie.”
The high school cheerleaders also had a camp this summer with the Oilers cheerleaders, who cheer for the out-of-school youth football team. The first grade through sixth grade cheerleaders were taught cheers, jumps and stunts by the high school team.
“We love working with kids who look up to us,” Wagner said. “It makes the environment so fun and happy. Seeing little cheerleaders want to be us one day makes us excited to share our knowledge that we have learned through cheer with them.”
