Vines is the new entertainment

In a few seconds a story is shown and a burst of laughter fills the room. Vines are now the new “trend” of stupid videos. The videos are short and sweet, around 5 to 8 seconds, and are usually cute or comical. For sophomore Payton Ruder, he describes them more as stories.

“Vines are just another way for people to express themselves,” Ruder said. “The first couple seconds is like the introduction, the next is like the body, and then the last is like the conclusion.”

For many students, vines are a fun way to share a bit about their life. Sophomore Trey Kaiser began making vines in August of this year for a reason that might surprise some.

“I used to be really nervous around people I didn’t know,” Kaiser said. “I love making people laugh and I wanted to overcome my problem. So I started doing funny stuff in public.

“People kept telling me I should post videos of the things I did. Once I found out about vines, I started recording them.”

While Kaiser had a more personal reason for creating vines, others enjoy watching them for entertainment.

“I like watching vines when I’m with my friends,” sophomore McKayla Schonthaler said. “I like watching the funny ones.”

For several students, the easy access and short amount of time is appealing.

“I like watching the funny ones,” junior Brenden Ibarra said. “I think that the fact that you can watch a quick video of something makes them popular.”

The short videos that many people watch are usually made to be funny, but a more personal meaning could be behind the video.

“Most of the ones that I see are mainly for entertainment,” senior Jessica Stoecklein said. “Although, I think they could probably be used for a deeper meaning depending on what the situation was.”

Even though Stoecklein thinks they can have a deeper meaning, freshman Hannah Pfannenstiel thinks otherwise.

“I believe that vines are just for entertainment,” Pfannenstiel said.

Depending on the video, people can use it either way. Some may want to use it for entertainment while other might want to use it for their own personal reasons.

Since so many people use vines, it has become very popular, but could it last forever or is it just another “trend” that goes around?

“I think that it will be like anything else social media related,” Stoecklein said. “It will be really popular for a while until the next best thing comes out and people move on.”

For some people, they think vines could last a long time, maybe even forever.

“I think as long as people are staying original and coming up with fresh ideas, they will around for quite a while,” junior Jasmine Lawson said.
