Hays Medical Center hosts Journeys and Destinations event

Hays Medical Center is hosting a health and science career exploration day called Journeys and Destinations on Nov. 22 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

There will be sessions for different fields and medical careers, as well as a guest speaker session presented by M.D. Larry Watts.

Guidance counselor Suellyn Stenger had the pleasure of attending this event with students last year.

“Students can choose from a wide variety of break-out sessions that involve some hands on activities,” Stenger said. “The Chief Medical Officer for Hays Med does a great job of presenting up-to-date information in an easy-to-understand format.”

Junior Becky Meagher attended Journeys and Destinations last year and thought the experience was incredible.

“I was very nervous at first but from the moment you got there you were learning in a fun way,” Meagher said. “Every station we went to had hands on activities and ways of learning about each occupation.  All of the workers were very good about answering any questions we had and finding a way to explain the information in ways we could understand.”

The deadline for registering to attend is Wednesday, Nov. 13, and the cost is $5 per student.

For students interested in medical careers, this event can be really informative and motivational.

“This is a wonderful opportunity for students who are interested in exploring careers in the fields of health and science,” Stenger said.
