Since their loss against Liberal on Oct. 3, the Hays High School varsity soccer team has faced off against Hesston, Dodge City, Junction City, Liberal once more and Garden City.
The Hays High Indians defeated the Hesston Swathers at the home game on Saturday, Oct. 5. The final score was 8-0. Six different players managed to score against the Swathers. Out of the eight goals scored, senior Mason Schleicher scored three.
On Tuesday, Oct. 8, the Indians traveled to Dodge City to play against the Demons, who have had a perfect season so far. Unlike their previous match against Dodge City, a 7-0 loss, Hays managed to keep it a close game. Senior Cooper L. Johnson scored a goal for Hays, with the result being a 2-1 loss for Hays.
The Hays team’s next game took place in Junction City on Thursday, Oct. 10. They were unable to score and lost the game 4-0.
During the home game against Liberal on Tuesday, Oct. 15, Hays lost by just one goal. The final score was 1-0.
Just two days later, on Thursday, Oct. 17, the boys played in Garden City. In the match between the Indians and the Buffaloes, Hays came through with a victory by one goal. Seniors Henry Speno and Schleicher scored the three goals of the night with the ending score being 3-2.
“Even though our record isn’t quite what I had hoped for, I am very proud of what we have done,” senior Cooper L. Johnson said. “and I look forward to continuing our success in the post season.”
