YouTube is a place where people of all ages can post different kinds of videos. Some students use YouTube to express their creativity.

Freshman Alicia Feyerherm has been on YouTube since May of 2016 and has 968 subscribers. Her channel’s name is “My Life Fast Forward,” and she posts a variety of videos including challenges, DIY videos, ukulele videos, Q&A’s and more.

“The best part of YouTube is being able to see your channel grow and see people enjoying your content,” Feyerherm said. “It warms my heart when people comment how much they enjoy watching my videos. It gives me motivation to continue making videos.”

Freshman Cooper Eiland started his channel, “SCWOOAPG,” about three years ago.

“I started YouTube, so I could practice my videography skills and have fun,” Eiland said. “I post gaming videos and skits.”

YouTube is not just filming and uploading videos. YouTubers have to come up with video ideas, set up equipment, film, edit, and design thumbnails for each video they upload.

“Filming takes between one and two hours,” Feyerherm said. “After I’ve finished filming and packing up my equipment, I can start editing. Editing takes between four and six hours depending on how much footage I’ve shot and what I need to do with it. Then you need to make a video thumbnail that people will want to click on. That adds another 45 minutes to an hour to the process.”

People can make money off of YouTube.

“The money is nice, but I don’t do it for the money,” Feyerherm said. “I do it because I enjoy making videos.”

Freshman Kaleb Neher has a YouTube channel called “Coop with a K22”.

“I like YouTube because we get to do crazy stuff we normally wouldn’t do,” Neher said. “The best part about YouTube is just making videos that people enjoy watching.”
