Kyle Porter leaving Hays High, girls basketball program for new position, pending school board approval
On April 23, Kyle Porter announced to the girls basketball team that he has accepted another teaching and coaching job in northeast Kansas, although he cannot disclose the school that he is moving to until the school board approves.
Porter said that the main reason he decided to take the position in northeast Kansas was to be closer to family.
The girls basketball program will have its fourth new coach in fourth years.
“I would say my favorite memory, while it may seem small, were the locker room celebrations with our football and basketball teams,” Porter said.
The locker room celebrations with the athletes will not be the only thing that Porter will miss.
“I will miss the student-athletes and coaches alike,” Porter said. “I believe we have a great group of leaders in the building and committed athletes that can set the tone for sustained success.”
Even after only being in the building for a year, Porter said he sees Hays as a special place in his coaching career.
“Hays High is a very special place because of the people in the building and the community that supports it,” Porter said. “I very much enjoyed my year at Hays High and will always keep tabs on Hays High from afar.”
