Project Graduation offers drug and alcohol free party for seniors
Project Graduation is a drug and alcohol-free party for seniors. It is taking place graduation night at FHSU Memorial Union.
At Project Graduation, students play basic gambling games for tickets instead of money. The tickets are used to win prizes like scholarships, laptops, HDTVs and tools.
“Our school chooses to have a Project Graduation instead of a Project Prom,” instructor Jerett Pfannenstiel said.
The school was the first in the state to have a Project Graduation. It was started in the 80s by former principal Mike Karl.
Pfannenstiel has been in charge of Project Graduation since 2008. Before then, instructor Dan Balman oversaw it, and before him it was Karl.
“Statistically, prom and graduation are the two most dangerous nights in a high school student’s career because of drug/alcohol related accidents,” Pfannenstiel said.
