On Tuesday, April 28, Hays High School hosted an informational meeting for the AFS foreign exchange student program during Advisory in the Hospitality Room.
At the brief meeting, AFS volunteer Mary Porterfield discussed information that students will need to know if they want to study abroad. Along with informing students about the overall requirements, AFS had current foreign exchange students give their perspective about their experiences in the United States.
“I wanted to see what different cultures experience and how they do things,” freshman Alayna Bickle, who attended the meeting, said.
Any students who are interested in studying abroad can go to www.afsusa.org, where they can see the different countries they would be able to be an exchange student in. On the AFS website, it also provides information, such as what the daily life and what the common language of those countries are, along with eligibility information.
On Wednesday, April 29 after school in the Hospitality Room, Porterfield will also host a meeting about hosting foreign exchange students here in the United States.
If students or parents have questions, they can contact the school counselors.
