Sweetheart Week was full of spirit, games and festivities, as students celebrated from Jan. 26-31.
For spirit week, Monday’s theme was Animal Print Day, Tuesday was Denim Day, Wednesday was “Dress Your Class” Day, Thursday was Dr. Suess Day and Friday was Extreme Maroon and Gold Day. Based on spirit counts, Denim Day was the most popular among the students.
On Friday, Jan. 30, the crowning of royalty took place during halftime of the varsity boys basketball game. The court consisted of the following senior partners: Jude Hileman and Olivia Werth, Tyler Hyunh and Jenna Kisner, Dawson Ruder and Zoe Winter, Noah Schaeffer and Gracie Kimbrel and Canon Weber and Kennedi Fischer. At the crowning ceremony, Ruder was crowned king, and Winter was crowned queen.
“It [being crowned] was a feeling of excitement and surprise mixed together,” Winter said. “It led to just an overflow of gratitude.”
Throughout the entire week, Student Council scheduled nights to decorate the school, organized the candidate games assembly and the winter sports/candidate formal assembly, and, of course, sponsored the Sweetheart dance, which 305 students attended.
“StuCo has been fighting to get to do two assemblies for years, and this year, we finally got to do both,” junior class president Alexis Bickle said. “It really gave our candidates a time and place to shine.”
