Q&A with: Co-President Mitzi Carrillo:
Q: What sparked your interest for DECA?
A: I became interested in DECA during my freshman year when a few of the seniors in my pride time were preparing to go to ICDC (international competition). They constantly met up in my pride time and it was so obvious that they were having fun with whatever their project was so I asked my friends if they would take the class with me!
Q: How has it shaped you as person and why?
A: I think being in DECA has prepared me for the future because it taught me how to research, manage my time, and how to speak publicly. Also, I have lots of memories with my friends because there are so many opportunities to work with others and have fun.
Q:Do you feel more prepared for future responsibilities because of DECA?
A: Yes, I do. DECA is a great resource and class to improve speaking, teamwork, and general life skills. After taking the DECA class, I can view the world a little differently because I know information about business and marketing which I can see through another lens now.
Q&A with: Vice President of Hospitality Aralen Maupin:
Q: What opportunities has DECA given to you to prepare for your future? How have those opportunities helped you?
A: Through DECA, I have had the opportunity to independently reach out to businesses, set up interviews, and conduct in-depth research. Many classes do not offer hands-on experiences where students are challenged to struggle, adapt, and ultimately succeed on their own. Because of this, I feel that DECA has significantly prepared me for my future by providing real-world opportunities I would not have had otherwise.
Q: Which opportunity was your favorite and why?
A: My favorite experience was advancing to Internationals and being surrounded by students my age who had already accomplished extraordinary things. That experience showed me that age is truly just a number, and that you can achieve anything you set your mind to.
