The first Homecoming in the new high school promises to be one to remember.
“I am most excited to boogie on the dance floor one last time,” senior Izaac Fox said.
Homecoming week, which starts on Monday, Sept. 22, will include numerous festivities and events. With the theme of “Down the Rabbit Hole,” the week will center around the adventures of Alice in Wonderland.
There will be many opportunities for students to get involved: decorating the new building on Thursday, Sept. 18 from 6 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., building their class floats, dressing up for the spirit days, participating in class games, attending the Homecoming parade downtown on Friday, Sept. 26 and attending the Homecoming football game at the school’s new stadium following the parade at 7 p.m.
Homecoming candidates have also been announced, and voting will open on Thursday, Sept. 25 during Advisory. King candidates include seniors Seth Burkholder, Fox, Trey Oakley, Jonathan Rigler and Connor Werth, and
“I felt super excited when hearing I was going to be a candidate and even more when I heard [senior] Molly [Buckles] got it as well,” Fox said.
Queen candidates are seniors Molly Buckles, Johanna Jones, Keeley Lowry, Chloe Rice and Erin Ruder.
“I am most excited for riding in the parade and the football game,” Buckles said.
The king and queen will be crowned at the Homecoming football game on Friday, Sept. 26 during halftime.
The next day on Saturday, Sept. 27, the dance setup will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., and the dance will be from 8 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.
“I love Homecoming because it’s an opportunity to bring everyone together and to bring out the spirit of Hays High,” Student Council president Connor Werth said.
