The Hays High School softball team competed in Junction City on April 4, where they played a doubleheader against the Blue Jays.
In the first game against the Blue Jays, Hays High scored twice in the first inning, once in the fifth inning and three times in the seventh inning, while Junction City only scored twice in the seventh inning. The final score of the first game was 6-2, with the Indians taking the win.
Senior Alyse Zimmerman scored twice for the team while sophomore Adalie Kippes, senior Riley Dreher, freshman Brynlee Brous and junior Katie Klein all scored a point for the team.
For their second game, Hays High scored once in the first inning, twice in the second inning and twice in the sixth inning, while Junction City was held scoreless. The ending score of the second game was 5-0, with the Indians claiming another victory.
In that game, Zimmerman, Klein, Dreher, freshman Brynlee Rupp and junior Lanie Becker all scored for the Indians.
“The girls have played well to start the season,” softball head coach Abby Gillian said. “We have a lot of new faces, but the girls are figuring out their roles and playing hard for each other.”
