On Thursday, March 27, the Hays High School girls swim team members traveled to Salina South for their first contest of the year.
In Event 1, the 200 Yard Medley Relay, Hays High had two entries. The first team consisted of junior Lucy Tippy, senior Breckyn Wahlmeier, sophomore Jaylen Hughes, and senior Izabel Schmidt. The second team consisted of junior Cailin DeBey, freshman Kesa Tsereteli, senior Katelyn Stieben, and sophomore Jayleigh Weilert. Team 1 ended up placing first with a time of 2:08, and Team 2 ended up placing fifth with a time of 2:29.
In Event 2, the 200 Yard Freestyle, Hays High had three placing entries. Senior Anne Wintch placed 10th with a time of 2:59, sophomore Janessa Miller placed 14th with a time of 3:53 and junior Loren Tervort placed 15th with a time of 4:00.
In Event 3, the 200 Yard IM, Hays High had three entries. Sophomore Jaylen Hughes placed third with a time of 2:14, junior Lucy Tippy placed fifth with a time of 2:53 and sophomore Jayleigh Weilert placed 10th with a time of 3:33.
In Event 4, the 50 Yard Freestyle, Hays High had three placing entries. Senior Izabel Schmidt placed first with a time of 25:33, junior Cailin DeBey placed sixth with a time of 31:00 and senior Katelyn Stieben placed seventh with a time of 32:51.
There were no entries in Event 5.
In Event 6, the 100 Yard Butterfly, Hays High had three entries with all of them placing. Senior Izabel Schmidt placed first with a time of 1:03, junior Lucy Tippy placed fourth with a time of 1:23 and senior Katelyn Stieben placed 10th with a time of 1:43.
In Event 7, the 100 Yard Freestyle, Hays High had three placing entries. Junior Cailin DeBey placed ninth with a time of 1:11, freshman Carissa Sun placed 14th with a time of 1:17, and freshman Kesa Tsereteli placed 15th with a time of 1:19.
In Event 8, the 500 Yard Freestyle, Hays High had two placing entries. Sophomore Jayleigh Weilert placed ninth with a time of 8:13 and senior Savannah Schmitz placed 11th with a time of 9:10.
In Event 9, the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay, Hays High had two placing entries. Team 1 consisted of senior Izabel Schmidt, junior Lucy Tippy, senior Breckyn Wahlmeier and sophomore Jaylen Hughes. Team 1 placed first with a time of 1:48. Team 2 consisted of freshman Kesa Tsereteli, junior Loren Tervort, senior Anne Wintch and freshman Carissa Sun. Team 2 placed 10th with a time of 2:30.
In Event 10, Women 100 Yard Backstroke, Hays High had three placing entries. Sophomore Jaylen Hughes placed first with a time of 1:07, senior Anne Wintch placed 12th with a time of 1:38 and sophomore Janessa Miller placed 13th with a time of 1:39.
In Event 11, Women 100 Yard Breaststroke, Hays High had three placing entries. Freshman Kesa Tsereteli placed fourth with a time of 1:28, senior Breckyn Wahlmeier placed sixth with a time of 1:29 and freshman Carissa Sun placed 10th with a time of 1:36.
In the final event, Women 400 Yard Freestyle Relay, Hays High had two placing entries. Team 1 consisted of junior Cailin DeBey, freshman Carissa Sun, sophomore Jayleigh Weilert and senior Katelyn Stieben. Team 1 placed fifth with a time of 5:05. Team 2 consisted of senior Savannah Schmitz, freshman Pypere Hollis, sophomore Janessa Miller and senior Anne Wintch. Team 2 placed 10th with a time of 6:02.
Overall, the girls swim team placed second out of six teams earning 323 points. The team competed in Topeka on Wednesday, April 9.
