Over the course of Feb. 27 to March 1, music students from all over Kansas, including students from Hays High School, attended All-State KMEA in Wichita.
On Thursday, Feb. 27, students in the different groups registered, then they rehearsed; on Friday, Feb. 28, the students also rehearsed for roughly the same amount of time as the day prior. During both days, instructors, students and other people interested in broadening their knowledge in the realm of music had the opportunity to attend various breakout sessions.
Throughout the day on March 1, the different ensembles performed after putting together the product of their hours of hard work.
To be able to attend state, students had to be chosen from their auditions. The students from Hays High who made it to State are as follows:
5A-6A Band:
Alex Hillebrand – string bass
Mixed Choir:
Daniel Adkins – Bass 1
Rowan Brock – Tenor 1
Kamden McBride – Bass 1
Connor Werth – Tenor 2
Treble Choir:
Jordan Aschenbrenner – Alto 1
EJ Fenwick – Soprano 1
“Going to state felt amazing and shocking,” Hillebrand said. “It was extremely fun, and after a lot of long, repetitive rehearsals, the performance was really satisfying.”
