On Feb. 20, the Hays High School boys swim team traveled to Lenexa to compete at the state meet.
Senior Marshall Sook competed at state in the 50 freestyle and the 100 freestyle, and Sook also swam in a relay alongside juniors Cedric Durr, Karsen Flaska and Chase Zadina.
Sook placed 13th in the 50 and 12th in the 100, and the relay team took 19th after the preliminary race. Overall, the team finished in 14th place, just behind Newton.
“The best part of my high school swim career was competing against some of the fastest swimmers in the state of Kansas, especially this year,” Sook said. “I had a lot of success in my individual events, but what made it even more special was sharing that success with my relay teammates. We pushed each other, supported each other and broke two school relay records together.”
