After playing eight straight games on the road in a span of 53 days, the Hays High School boys basketball team is back home for the first time in the new calendar year, as they will take on the Sunrise Christian Academy Buffaloes on Tuesday, Feb. 4.
The Indians are looking to bounce back after falling to Great Bend in a hard-fought road game, where the Panthers pulled away in the end, 64-52, making it the fourth time Hays High has lost to a ranked team.
In that game, the Indians played well, with three players entering double figures, and had a 27-24 halftime lead before the Panthers took the lead back. Despite the loss, Hays High showed what all they can do to potentially get a win against Sunrise.
As Hays High tries to rebound, they will get a difficult opponent in Sunrise. The Buffaloes enter the game with a record of 17-3 and a four-game winning streak. Sunrise has used a great offense, with three players averaging double figures, and a defense that has used its height to block shots and help the offense outscore their opponents by almost 20 points. Plus, the Buffaloes will look for a big win before playing on back-to-back days starting this Thursday, Feb. 6 against Wichita Defenders Homeschool and then facing Destiny Christian from Oklahoma on Friday.
The game is set to tip off at approximately 7:45 p.m., following the conclusion of the girlsā game at 6 p.m. The game is also available to be watched on www.hayspost.com, or you can listen to it with Dustin Armbruster on 96.9 KFIX or with Hank Corsair on the Tribe Broadcasting YouTube channel.
