Hays High School’s Student Council held its monthly meeting Nov. 6, where they discussed upcoming events after recapping Homecoming.
The Homecoming recap provided high numbers of attendance from the students at the various events. More than 500 students went to the game night, and a record-breaking number of more than 800 students attended the Homecoming dance.
For the first time, the StuCo was selling Christmas sweaters as a fundraiser for the program. Each sweater was $25, and they came in red or green. They were sold Nov. 4-17.
The upcoming monthly trivia was also discussed. The theme for November’s trivia would be Disney. It will take place Nov. 22 in the library. In October, more than 60 students participated in trivia, and StuCo hopes to keep up that involvement.
Bringing back an event from last year, Winter Wars was mentioned. From Dec. 12-13, students can play “rock, paper, scissors” against each other to win bead necklaces. Students can also compete against teachers to win the teachers’ bead necklaces. This year, a new development, students have the ability to purchase more necklaces for $2 per necklace.
Starting second semester, StuCo will be running something they call the “Woot Woot Wagon.” Students will nominate classes and clubs that are succeeding at something or doing something significant, and the winners will get to have snacks from the wagon.
“Of the upcoming events, I am most excited for the Woot Woot Wagon to get ready and roll out because I think it will help give hard-working students and faculty a little bit of the massive appreciation they deserve,” StuCo vice president senior Caleb King said.
