Hays High’s Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) has had two major events this year thus far. First, was the back to school event on September 8th and shortly there after, on Sept. 25, they hosted a “See You at the Pole” event in front of the school.
This event was not exclusive to Hays High School, as many places around the United States participate in this event every year. “See You at the Pole” started in the 1990s in Texas with a group of Christian teenagers, and since then, the event has more than one million students participating in it across the United States.
At Hays High, students started meeting around the pole around 6:15 a.m., and by 6:30 a.m., they had a crowd well into double digits. Contributing to the positive atmosphere, FCA treated the attendees to free doughnuts.
“The FCA Student Leadership Team wanted to begin the event with some worship, so they chose some songs by Phil Wickham, including ‘Battle Belongs’ and ‘House of the Lord,’ FCA sponsor David Buller said. “Following the worship, students gathered in groups and prayed together for a variety of things including Hays High School and our nation.”
“I was blown away at the turnout for ‘See You at the Pole,’ Buller said. “One person counted 75 students. Another person counted 95 students. Some staff members also joined the gathering. Everyone is welcome to FCA! We meet on Thursdays at 7:15 a.m. in the library. It is a safe place for students to talk about the Christian faith.”
