To celebrate the start of the new school year, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) hosted its first event of the year, the second annual back-to-school party on Sept. 8 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Hays High Schools’ home football field.
The gathering had a good turnout with many FCA members in attendance, but also with many other students not in the organization.
“It was an awesome event,” sponsor David Buller said. “Our FCA Student Leadership Team choose the speakers [and] the songs and put it all together.”
The back-to-school party included many activities for those in attendance, including corn hole, football, gaga ball and nine square. FCA also provided free snow cones, and two guest speakers made an appearance, including Garrett Kahrs, who is an author and speaker who graduated with a degree in Applied Biblical Studies, and Corbin Ricke, who is a Fort Hays State University cross country athlete.
“They both encouraged the students to grow in their faith and embrace the good news of Jesus,” Buller said.
FCA is now preparing for their next event, which is the statewide Fall Conference in Salina on Nov. 9-10.
