Hays High to host FFA district conference Oct. 12; students will not have school
On Oct. 12, Hays High School will be hosting a district FFA conference, called the Greenhand Conference, meaning Hays High students will not have school that day.
The Greenhand Conference is for all first-year FFA members in the Northwest District. These conferences are held every year at the high school of the newly elected FFA president. This year, senior Amelia Jaeger was elected as district president, so that is why the conference will be at Hays High.
Jaeger has been in FFA for all four years of high school and was also involved in the Good Hope 4-H Club at a young age.
“I joined because both my parents have agricultural backgrounds and because FFA offers many opportunities to increase my leadership and career skills,” Jaeger said.
As of right now, she serves as the Hays High FFA’s vice president and Northwest District president.
“I earned the position of Northwest District president by going through an application and interview process, being slated among other candidates and giving a speech in front of a pool of voters to decide our final positions,” Jaeger said. “This is a similar process to being elected as vice president for our Hays High FFA chapter.”
