Chamber singers rehearse for their winter concert that was held December 16, 2021.

On Saturday, March 26 at 7 p.m., the Chamber Singers will perform a concert at the St. Joseph Catholic Church.
“The purpose of this concert is to bring to light the history of this country, celebrate how far we have come as a nation and express hope for a brighter future,” senior Mazzy Sacia said. “This is also a great opportunity for the Chamber Singers, as well as students attending the concert, to experience classical music in a new way.”
Chamber singers will sing “American Eulogy,” composed by Phillis Wheatley and arranged by Michael Davidson, followed by “My Angel, His Name is Freedom,” composed by Ralph Waldo Emerson and arranged by Gabriela Lena Frank.
“We chose to perform ‘My Angel, His Name is Freedom’ because of the compelling and truly moving text,” Sacia said. “We also selected it because the content is substantial and challenging, but still achievable for our choir.”
Sacia said Davidson’s “American Eulogy” was written as a sister piece to the main song.
“It elaborates on the concepts highlighted by ‘My Angel’ and also brings a bit of a faster pace to the performance as a whole,” Sacia said. “The text is from the poem ‘To the Right Honorable William, Earl of Dartmouth’ by Phillis Wheatley, who was the first published African-American author of a book of poetry. Wheatley wrote this poem as a thank you to the newly appointed Earl for freeing the colonies from the tyranny of Britain.”
Chamber Singers also will be having a Capella competition on May 7 at the 12th Street Auditorium and their Spring Concert on May 10 at Beach-Schmidt Auditorium.
