Hays High crowns 2021 Homecoming royalty
On Friday, Oct. 15, the Hays High School Homecoming king and queen were announced during halftime of the football game versus Maize South.
This year’s Homecoming queen candidates were Landri Dotts, Kamree Leiker, Madelyn Martin, Samantha Vesper and Sydney Wittkorn and Jordan Dale, Aidan DeBey, Jaren Kanak, Ryan Schuckman and Tyler Solida.
DeBey won Homecoming king, and Dotts won Homecoming queen.
“Being a Homecoming candidate was a blast,” Dotts said “It was great to win, but it didn’t feel like I had to win.”
DeBey agreed with Dotts about the fun of being a Homecoming candidate.
“It was an honor,” DeBey said. “I was not expecting it, and fully expected Tyler Solida to win it. So, when they called my name, I was shocked.”
The candidates who did not win were still supportive of DeBey and Dotts.
“As sad as it was to lose, I have to say Aidan DeBey looked mighty fine in that crown,” Solida said. “All the girls would have made great queens, and I am proud that I got to be a part of such a great thing with all my friends. And, it’s okay because I can just borrow the crown from Aidan when he’s not looking.”
